Blackface sheep

FEBRUARY 2012

So far this winter the Snow Squad has been more or less redundant and despite the fact that there are one or two eager individuals with bright new snow shovels and vizi-vests just itching to get out there and get shovelling, let us hope it remains that way.

It is also that time of year again when we put out our usual appeal for contributions to this web site. If you have any stories, ideas, poems, pictures, recipes, advertisements, programmes, agendas, diary dates, etc, etc, then please either email or drop us a line. Click here to contact the Editor.

LOCK YOUR DOORS
People who read the newspapers and keep an eye on the community police messages, posted on this site, will have noticed that there have been a number of break-ins in some of the more rural parts of the county including in our own area. There have also been one or two reports of apparent strangers loitering around properties in the village . They have quickly left when they realise they have been noticed. The message from the police is simple - "
If you see any vehicles or people acting suspiciously then please contact the Police IMMEDIATELY on 999. Can we remind you that you should not leave your house or vehicle insecure, even if you are only leaving them unattended briefly, thieves will seize every opportunity to relieve you off your property. Ensure your house appears occupied".

THE SNOW SQUAD
Can we help you when the snow comes?
Let’s hope we don’t have a repeat of last year with the village snow-bound for weeks on end, but just in case it does happen again we are putting together a team of volunteers who are in a position to make life easier for all.
Would you like your path swept?
If you found it tricky getting to the road then we will organise a team who could include your path in the snow clearing plans – we hope to keep most pavements swept so that at least people can get to the shop or the pub, and we can include your path if you let us know that you would like us to do so.
Would you like someone to do a bit of shopping
if necessary or give you a lift in a four wheel drive to the shops?  Lots of people found that their cars were not adequate to get them out of the village last time, and so we will have a team of people who will be out and about in their intrepid 4WD vehicles and would happily lend a hand if you are running short of supplies.
Would you like someone to pop in and see you occasionally
?  Just for a chat to prevent you going stir crazy when you can’t get out.
If any of these appeal to you or if there is anything else you would like us to think about doing if the village is snowed in again then please contact any of the snow squad listed below.
