After the very dry conditions of the first half of the year, July saw a complete reversal of the trend with the rainfall for the month being the highest July total for at least the last ten years. The rain was condensed into two periods; at the beginning and around the 19th. of the month, with some very high rainfall rates recorded.

Rainfall for the month was again below average for June. There were one or two very warm days but not enough to meet the heat-wave criteria and certainly on the cool side when compared with the South-East of England.

The dry weather of the previous month continued until the last week of May when over 25 mm of much needed rain arrived and bringing some relief to farmers and gardeners. Dry springs are not unusual, especially in the North-East.

A relatively mild February, with little rain, but certainly windy at times.

A relatively normal January with close to average rainfall and temperatures. The exception to the average was the very high winds on the 24th of the month. A speed of 94 mph was recorded at Brizlee Wood.
