Glanton Show is held on the second Saturday in August each year, and 2010 will be the 87th Show. It’s a traditional village show but of course has changed and adapted over the years – so we’re ‘traditional with a twist’! The bedrock is the competitive classes which cover a huge range, so whether you grow great fruit & veg, are a deft flower arranger, take fabulous photos, bake a mean cake or can write a witty limerick, there’s a class (or several!) for everyone to enter. Entry is free and there are cash prizes for each class, and cups awarded for overall winners in various sections. The show schedule and entry forms will be available on this website about two months before the show so make sure to call back then. You will also find programmes in the Post Office in Glanton, or you can call the show secretary, Liz Knox on 01665 574992.
On the Show Day itself, August 14 2010, the marquee will be full of all the entries so there’s a lot to admire and be inspired by, for all ages. There’s live music, and catering so you can enjoy a hot roast pork roll or sample tea & cakes. There will be a dog show, pedigrees and mutts welcome so do bring your own pet, and a terrier racing event – usually chaotic and hilarious, and the Glanton definition of a terrier is any dog with four legs so do come & join in! There is also a pony show, for more details contact Liz Knox on 01665 574992 and a sheepdog trial, contact Ian Shearlaw on 01669 631148.

Each year we have various attractions, for example in 2009 the Persimmon Gun Dog team showed their wonderfully well-trained dogs and puppies. We had several beautiful alpacas, a beekeeping display and lots of stands and side shows from the local history society to craftspeople with jewellery, woodwork etc. We also had a small display of classic cars (Aston Martins from the 1930s to the 1990s, Jaguar and MG and a rare Evante) and in 2010 plan a bigger display [owners who might like to take part are invited to contact Jon Radgick on 01665 578222]. For 2010 plans are afoot for a ‘have a go’ marquee, so you can try your hand at various country crafts such as dry stone walling, basket weaving, sock knitting (yes, really!), with an expert to guide you – who knows you may be inspired to take up a new hobby! We hope to have a display of birds of prey too. Keep calling back to this site for more details of this year’s plans.
The show is managed by ‘The Glanton & District Horticultural and Industrial Society’, with a small lively committee which meets about 5 times a year. If you’re interested in joining in (we do this for fun and not as a chore!!) please call the Show Secretary Liz Knox on 01665 574992, or Chairman John Swanson on 01665 578570, or Treasurer Sandra Nattrass on 01665 578222. There’s a coffee morning on May 15 in the Memorial Hall, and a clay pigeon shoot on July 18 – for more information come back to this site in May, or call John Swanson on 01665 578570.
Hope to see you on August 14, 2010!

Glanton Show Committee are keen to recruit new Committee members. We also need someone who would be prepared to act as an assistant in the weeks running up to the Show with admin/entries etc. It would be an ideal chance for anyone new in the village to become involved, but everyone is welcome!
Volunteers to help at the Coffee Morning on May 15th and the Clay Pigeon Shoot on July 18th would also be most welcome.
