Community > Parish Council
The Parish Council comprises up to 10 members who normally meet every two months in the Village Hall. You can see a current list of members separately on this site.
Since the creation of the unitary authority we are the only level of local democracy between the individual residents and the County, and over time it is likely that the workload of the Parish Council will increase.
We are directly responsible for a very small area of village green, for seats within the village and for the bus stop.
We can also influence County spending, for example in the last year we have worked with the County to improve road surfaces, maintenance of footpaths, road signage and improvements to stiles.
We are consulted by the County Council in respect to planning applications submitted within the parish
Our budget comes from our precept which is a small amount included in the Council Tax for those properties within the parish boundary, and for 2010/11 this is set at £1500.
This is spent in a range of projects and in support of a few charitable bodies which serve Glanton and its immediate area. You can see our detailed income and expenditure accounts elsewhere on this site.
We undertook a massive review in 2007-8 culminating in the Parish Plan document which was published in early 2009 and which you can read in full on this website. From that we took a number of areas for action (one of which was the construction of this website with the enormous help of village resident Tony Meikle). We have also put together a directory of local businesses, we have researched the need for a village allotment for which sadly there is insufficient demand at present, likewise a childrens play area.
We are in the process of moving onto the second tier of activities and will post news of these as decisions are made.
If you have any queries relating to the Parish Council or its activities then please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Council, our e-mail or Clerk Linda Lazenby on parishcouncil@glantononline.net
